SUBJECT : Imprimus Wren VI SCSI Drive
DATE : 5/9/90
FYI # : 050990th
OS VERSION : SFT/ADV 2.15 and 386
PROBLEM : The message "ABEND: Error Adding Generic SCSI Drive"
may appear when running COMPSURF on an Imprimus Wren VI
766MB drive attached to a DCB. The same message would
appear in NETGEN when attempting to load the operating
system.
SOLUTION : The problem has been traced back to the "SCSI Parity"
option being enabled on the disk drive. This is the
default for the drive from the factory.
Looking at the rear of the drive, there is a jumper
platform to the left of the SCSI buss connector. The
jumper positions are numbered 1 through 9, left to
right. J1-J2 select the terminator power souce. J3-J5
control the drive address; all three are out for
address zero. J6 & J8 involve spindle motor start
options. J7 controls SCSI Parity Enable and must be
out for use with the DCB. J9 is reserved by the
manufacturer. For drive address zero, only J1 (the
leftmost pair) should be in.
Also, the installer should select the "Generic SCSI"
drive type when running DISKSET. This will cause the
DCB to interrogate the drive to determine it's actual
configuration.
